Culture of Assam

 

Assam is one of the most enriched states of India. It bears the imprints of the past civilizations and stands tall on the location contours of the country. The dense forests of Assam make for a flourishing industry of wood. The tea estates of Assam are the biggest revenue generator and engage a major portion of the Assamese population.

◾Food Culture :-

Assamese dishes are said to be less spicy than any other Indian dishes. Assamese are mostly non-vegetarian, and their staple diet is rice. Fish, chicken, duck and pigeon and pork are widely eaten and quite popular. Fish curry is another favourite which is prepared as a sour dish called Machor tenga. Baked fish wrapped in leaves with white mustard paste is a popular delicacy called Patot diya mas where 'pat' means leaf in Assamese. 


◾Traditional Dance And Music Culture:-


Assam is home to several groups and tribes like Mongoloid, Indo-Burmese, Indo-Iranian, Aryan, Rabha, Bodo, Kachari, Karbi, Mising, Sonowal Kacharis and Mishimi, which is why the state enjoys diversity at its best. Also, the influence of this diversity can be seen in the culture and traditions especially in the dance and music of Assam. The ideal time to witness the different dance and music forms can be during the various festivals and fairs in the state.

◾ Festivals :-


Assam is full of festivals, the most important being the Bihu. It is celebrated to mark the important points of a cultivator's life over a yearly cycle. A non-religious festival which is celebrated irrespective of caste and creed. Rongali or Bohag Bihu celebrated in mid-April with the coming of spring and the beginning of the sowing season. It is also known as Rangaali Bihu ("rang" means merry-making). Next is the Kangaali Bihu (kangaali meaning poor) is celebrated in mid-October. It is called so because by this time the harvest is brought home. The Magh Bihu is celebrated in mid-January. There are community feasts and bonfires which take place. Also known as the Bhogaali Bihu ("bhog" means enjoyment and feasting). 

Assam is a land of fairs and festivals. Most of the festivals celebrated in Assam characterize the spirit of accommodation and togetherness in the diverse faith and belief of her inhabitants. This perfect fusion of heritage of her numerous races has made Assam the home of the most colorful festivals reflecting the true spirit, tradition and lifestlye of the people of Assam.The major festivals celebrated in Assam are Bihu, Baishagu, Ali-Ai-Ligang, Baikho, Rongker, Rajini Gabra Harni Gabra, Bohaggiyo Bishu, Ambubashi Mela and Jonbill Mela and so on.

 ◾ Tourism :-


Assam, the land of wonders, is the best place to know the rich biodiversity of mother India. There are many tourist places in Assam. These places enhance the state as just more than a normal tourist attraction. They add beauty to the place. A place that is co-existing with nature will always feel and look beautiful. In that case, Assam is no exception.
